Local and national industry leaders have expressed a need for a new kind of information technology professional, i.e. one who offers not only technical expertise but proficiency in finding, analyzing, and managing information in any setting around the world.
Penn State has taken the lead in offering a program designed to address this need.
The Penn State IST program is dynamic and highly interdisciplinary. As business and technology landscapes change, additions and improvements to IST courses are made and special-topics courses are created to enable students to receive real-time information about the IT world.
In advance of earning their degrees, students gain training in state-of-the-art technology and have the opportunity to apply these skills in real situations for profit and not-for-profit organizations in Beaver County and throughout western Pennsylvania.
In turn, this opportunity makes IST students much more valuable to national and international employers in search of technology professionals with proven skills.
The IST degree program is exactly the same at every Penn State location. A student can study for two years at a campus and then transfer to Penn State University Park, or choose to remain at his/her local campus to complete the IST baccalaureate degree.
For more information about the program, please review additional information on this website and on the Penn State IST website.
If you have questions or prefer to speak with a Beaver faculty member, please contact Dr. Kay Wijekumar, associate professor of IST, 724-773-3814.
